l. To visit a Botanical site i.e. Victoria Park, Portsmouth.
Here we will collect discarded and dead specimens of flowers, seeds, leaves, buds, fungi, feathers and insects, document them and make up a visual record with drawings, photographs and rubbings etc, which will be used as supporting material for the finished work. From the disarray [Chaos] of organic material found on our nature trail we will produce a structured piece of work to be offered to the school.
2. Workshop - The Mountbatten Gallery, Guildhall Square
The aim of this workshop was to support the art and science link and how artists use ideas spawned by natural object, such as plants and animals to create things of beauty. Examples shown were: Lalique jewellery, architecture and stain glass window designs base on the theme.
The project entails encapsulating some of the specimens found in different coloured wax bricks. Then setting the bricks into a design agreed by the group [this will be derived from the drawings or photographs done on site]. The bricks will be mounted in a light box, which.when illuminated will reveal it's Make Up of the botanical specimens.
The finished result will look similar to a stained glass window when lit and a mosaic when switched off.
The workshop was part of Catalyst 7 Make Up exhibition held at the Mountbatten Gallery,
Portsmouth March 2001. The exhibition was supported by City Arts PCC, Southern Arts,
Richard Spurgeon and Copier Express.
Thanks are also extended to Penny Adams-Art, Sheena Wright and Kleran O'Dowda Science
City of Portsmouth Girls School.
